Description

Yellow tubular flowers on this large deciduous shrub attract bees and hummingbirds. This shrub is found in the coastal spray zone along the backshore (particularly on the west coast in cooler and wetter climates) as well as in partial shade sites in a variety of moist to wet habitats. The involucral bracts are a stunning red and have inspired the species name and shiny black fruits in pairs are savoured by waxwings and other birds, but not fit for human consumption.
